HSE demonstrating Improved cookstove to the chiefs

The visit to rural areas of Abaji and Muye in FCT- Abuja was aimed at consulting with the local chiefs and introducing improved cookstoves to the women in the community. During the visit, the team was able to engage with the community leaders and receive feedback on the challenges they face in their daily lives. The women in the community were also introduced to improved cookstoves and were able to provide feedback on the stoves they preferred.

One of the women in the community, Amina, shared her experience using the improved cookstove. She mentioned that she currently had to spend a lot of time gathering firewood and preparing meals on an open fire. This was not only time-consuming but also had negative health effects due to the smoke generated from the open fire. However, with the introduction of the improved cookstove, Amina can significantly reduce the amount of time spent gathering firewood and cooking, as well as the negative health effects from smoke inhalation. She expressed gratitude for the intervention and encouraged others in the community to adopt the use of improved cookstoves.

Overall, the visit was successful in raising awareness about the benefits of improved cookstoves, engaging with the community, and receiving feedback on the stoves that were preferred. The intervention has the potential to improve the lives of the women in the community by reducing the time and effort spent on cooking and improving their health by reducing exposure to harmful smoke.
